The Da Vinci Code

I've talked to many people who have had the Da Vinci Code rock their world.  They challenge their faith.  They re-examine christ.  They go google Da Vinci and Mary Magdeline.  I finally caught up with the rest of the world and read it.  Afterwards, I put it down and had myself a good chuckle.

The book was hard to put down, I'll give Brown credit for that.  It was predictable, but cleverly done.  It was also misleading, twisted and more devoid of any real purpose or truth than any novel I think I've ever read.  Now, don't get me wrong.  I'm sure a fact or two was dead on.  The rest was merely amusing.  Rated near the top of Brown's jokes are the times the book asserts something as "established historical fact," then fails to establish it as historical or fact.  Claiming the Gnostic gospels to be the more timely and accurate gospels was pretty good too.  What really takes the cake though is the assertion that before Constantine and the evil, male dominated early Church, society worshipped everything female and avoided "testosterone fueled wars."  A close second was the great protagonist "Priory of Sion" was actually a failed confidence trick by three French con men.  Talk about ironic.  Anyways, if you read the Da Vinci Code and take it seriously, please, please do the research before you start talking to everyone about the grand fraud of the new testament and the lost bloodline of jesus christ and make a total fool of yourself.

Today, somebody told me a hard lie instead of an easy one.  And he drove I don't know how far to do it.  I'm not sure whether I should be flattered or insulted.  Right now I'm just sort of amused.  I always wonder what goes on under the surface in situations like this.

God has a hell of a sense of humor.  Operative word being hell.  They say when God closes a door, he opens a window.  But sometimes he leaves the door open and trips you every time you try to walk towards it. All the while, you watch in frustration as it slowly swings shut.  Yep, God is one funny dude.  Can't really blame him though.  Humanity is pretty laughable even without his help.

So here I am again, blocking my own shot.  Except, I'm not even sure I had a shot to begin with.  The only thing I'm sure of is that I don't deserve to be on the field in the first place, much less making a drive at the goal.  But I guess that goes back to God's sense of humor again.

On contemplation

Sometimes I wonder where experience becomes bias.  How much does closeness really color our perception?

Sometimes I wonder who the hell came up with our social system.  How often are mixed signals simply intentionally misinterpreted?

Sometimes I wonder where caring about someone crosses the line  Is a persistant feeling a sign of something real or a sign of a personality flaw?

Sometimes I why God created music.  Why do a few simple chords and a clever phrase sum up what we feel better than five pages of bull?

Sometimes I wonder where the line is between emotional apathy and emotional insecurity.  Do we not care or are we just scared to?

Sometimes I wonder why.

...why are you so beautiful?

Tonight feels like a night that should be written in poetry, not prose.  Sang in the quiet, forlorn rolling of deft fingers over ivory keys, not the hard clash of power chords by some half drugged egomaniac.  Seen in the sad glow of a sunset, declaring the end of the day yet promising another, not in the harsh glow of the ageless city lights.  Smelled in the burning of wood, not petroleum.  Tasted in the sweet, warm glow of liquid chocolate, not the firey burn of liquor or the bland flatness of water.  Known in the quiet peace of one completely alone, one united with oneself, known in the union of many great counterparts.  Mind and body.  Body and soul.  Soul and heart.  Heart and mind.  Tonight should be a night when emotion, physicality, intellect and eternal substance all meet and mix. A night on which even God might pause and wonder.

Why?

I haven't the slightest idea.
